Aftermarket con rods?

Post by Therealjj91 » Mon May 11, 2015 7:16 pm

Well this is the story, got the car fully mapped yesterday after the engine rebuild and run in period (2x oil changes) and everything was running really sweet and then it started to knock. Mechanic looked at it today and says it sounds like a small end bearing has gone. I replaced the main bearings with ACL ones but not the small end so that's probably the culprit, the one weak link in the engine :/ but it also has standard con rods with high compression Pistons, do I need aftermarket con rods too? Because I don't want to rebuild it with new small bearings just for a con rod to break....

Standard ones are meant to be fairly strong, I have eagles in mine but my compression is fairly high.

What's your compression? I have mahle gold series 11.5:1 pistons and the head has been skimmed slightly as well.

The hi comp oem pistons need the correct con rods as the small end is a few thou bigger if I remember rightly? Hopefully you have the right bits matched together?

Tbh it's not something I've heard of failing before.

Yeah I used the pins that came with the mahles and put them onto ATR rods, is that combo okay?
