To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

What alarm have you got?

Post by Roystan » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:14 am

My Conlog immobiliser is refusing to cut out half the time, which is leaving me stranded for 10/15minutes while i try turn it off.

What alarm and immobiliser systems are you guys running and did your insurance drop on it?

Any links would be great.

I don't have this, but I have had a Toad AI606 before, was a great system and if professionally fitted is a Cat1

I don't have an alarm... probably should considering the dodgy people that live over the way from me... 5 police cars rolled up this morning at about 9, they're still parked there.

EDIT: Wow, just as a posted that they come walking out. One track suited guy in cuffs, 6 officers with armfuls of evidence bags, 2 of them then went back in and got more

To be fair though, an alarm is pretty useless these days.

What you really want is a good immobiliser so at least they can't take the car.

same here. got it fitted up with remote boot release too. only annoying thing is that sometimes it locks the doors again before you've got a chance to get in like if you're talking to someone outside the car, or putting things in the boot, and clicking the button again doesn't release the locks.

it's got an immobiliser built in (and again it can catch you out with a timeout - like if you sit in the car and want to adjust your seat or do your make-up or something, you'll have to press the button again to start the engine.)

it also has the option of remote engine start but it's not particularly useful and also voids the cat 1 status i think.

Just as a curve ball, the original UK 4th gens had a Hamilton and Palmer alarm/immob.
Mine is still going strong and I've been able to buy spares and extras from them when needed.
They knew all about the model of alarm etc when I told them the car, so they may offer an installation or guide?

I wouldn't get anything other than an AutoWatch.

My dad's been fitting alarms for years, and he's had fewest issues with AutoWatch - in fact, just one.

(Note, that you've got an AutoWatch in yours, Gayno!)

As long as the alarm has a built in immobiliser I'm not too fused. That's my main issue, is that i want the immobiliser. Although the remote boot release would come in handy! I never put bags or jackets on the seats, always in the boot. and amount of times ive had to put stuff on dirty ground just to try open the boot.

Good thinking there!

Yeah, I know!

What I'm saying though is that if I had a car that I was fitting an alarm to, I wouldn't go all out on a hugely expensive Clifford system.

I'd much rather fit my own hidden switch in/on/under the dashthat most thiefs won't be bother to try and trace!

I like that if I press the unlock button on my keyfob, if I don't open the doors within a certain amount of time they lock again  I always get paranoid that I'll one day be walking away and press the button in my pocket or something.
