Gents,

I got the dizzy changed yesterday and the engine management light is off and the car engages vtec fine. However when I picked the car up and took it for a drive, it was very hesitant and wouldn't shift like it normally does.

I waited for it to warm up before giving it the beans and it seems to be bogging down. I have had a look online and apparently the dizzy change can knock out the timing by a tooth? Is this the case?

Other things that have recently been changed on the car is the spark plugs, the fuel filter has been replaced, the leads are probably about 60k mileage old.

The car seemed to be fine before the dizzy was changed? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Ranj, was this a new non genuine Honda dizzy? If so, I had the same issue on a 4th Gen. Bought it brand new and the car was so hesitant! At the time i was desperate to get the car working so just purchased a it. A week later, I manage to find a 2nd hand work from a local scrapyaed and what do you know, the power was restored!

Definetly check the new dizzy or put the old one back in first. I've never bought one of those ever again.
Ive had same issue with brand new aftermarket dizzy - mega misfires and low power - swapped to 2nd hand oem dizzy and problem solved.

Mind u ive had a few oem dizzys fail and they definately can be tempremental if resetting timing etc ;)

If you're ever in this neck of the woods again - happy to go through and swap over the coil (think ive got 2 spare), recheck the timing etc.

I still have your old dizzy here aswell.

Lude bogging down after the dizzy change

Post by Free Ranj Egg » Wed Jun 05, 2019 9:16 am

Hi Guys

Hope you are all well. Sorry for the absence. Been busy with changing jobs, getting married, honeymoon and now trying to settle down in life with a full time parrot sitting on my shoulder (my wife) lol.

So thread resurrection time!!!

I didn't drive my car for a month and the problem of the car bogging down seems to not be as frequent as it was. So I'm thinking it may not be the dizzy.

The car has a tendency now of sometime bogging down when its cold, but when it warms up its fine. It generally seems to be in low revs (up to 2500 rpm) and at lower speeds of up to 30 mph. I actually think it could be something like HT leads or spark plugs.

What do you guys think? Its starting to annoy me now and I just want my baby fixed lol.
Have a great day everyone.

The egg!!!

Hope the honeymoon was good. Life is always busy - twice as much so once your married!

Hard to say whats going on. Anything other symptoms? Have you whipped out the spark plugs and checked them / checked the HT leads look ok?

Your getting on a bit on the mileage so might be worth a compression test if you know someone who has one? worth doing whilst the plugs are out (2 birds 1 stone).

If you don't know the age of the ignition components, a set of cheap standard spark plugs and some pattern HT leads are a sound investment.

Ive still got the coil (at least one) and your old dizzy here. Not sure if your planning on coming down this way any time soon? (ended up burning a few weekends sorting out the new car, wifes new civic ended up going back to the dealer twice for radar/camera trouble, but all sorted now!)

The fuel filter afaik is pretty close to TPS, try to clen the socket or disconnect it for a test.
If everything else fails, read the manual!
