I have a rounded doughnut gasket from the downpipe to the catalytic converternewkid wrote:Might be able to help me here, with your new system, did you do away with the flexi part of the downpipe?
This is correct. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about the exhaust flexing at all. I'm running 75a mounts, so the motor does not move under acceleration. The exhaust is actually held up with metal straps, and not the typical rubber grommets. The muffler is the only item that has the grommets on, since it's just the Evo2 welded onto the new pipe.tramroadmotors wrote:
if you look at the flange above here ^^^^ you can see a bevel, that takes one of those compressed and shaped mesh gaskets with bolts that compress springs to keep it tight but allow it to flex, trouble with a fwd is your always going to need either a flexi or 1 of these type gaskets or the exhaust will snap when you accelarate or decelarate due to the nature of how it is. peugeot/citreon use these as standard but don't let that alarm you they work fine
Ah, I see what you did theretoadster wrote:LO![]()

Most people don't use aftermarket motor mounts. The doughnut works well if you have filled mounts or aftermarket, but I would personally choose a flexpipe over a doughnut if using stock motor mounts. All aftermarket headers sit lower than the factory, and even aftermarket exhaust systems. So a flex makes it easier to connect the two vs having to weld a pipe at an awkward angle and reducing the amount of mobility the doughnut gasket allows due to that angle.newkid wrote: yea its a doughnut gasket, reason i asked is the tri-y i have on the way should take one of these but on the american prelude site they all still seem to get a flexi welded in as well which i cant get my head around, the civics just use the doughnut type as well btw and not the flexi, your answer has confirmed for me tho when it finally arrives to just have the b-pipe extended with an end to mate to the doughnut
cheers
If I were using a flexpipe, my catalytic converter would be mounted much higher than it currently is. I'll have to take a photo to further explain. But right now my lowest point of ground clearance is the catalytic converter due to me using the doughnut gasket straight to the cat.
