Re: Lude's taking far too long, so I'm breaking

Well I had doubted the integrity of the MOTer as soon as he said the suspension assemblies, whether they be front or back were fine. Driving back from my mate's house last night, the roads were clear, so I decided to throw her about a bit to see if I could establish exactly where the noises were coming from. I had concluded already that the ATB's need their bushes greasing, but there was definitely a knocking/clunking noise coming from the passenger side (Still couldn't tell if it was the front or back), but since I had emptied all the bits and bobs that had also been rattling around the boot previously that evening, it would give me a better chance to tell where it was coming from.

... However after throwing her from side to side it started to sound and feel almost like the NSF wheel was coming loose! So I very cautiously carried on up the road to my house (I was practically there anyway). Parked down my drive and gave the NSF wheel a tug. Yep! Indeed it felt loose! I thought that's ridiculous, she was making that clunking noise all the way back from the MOT, so it must have been loose then! So I went to tighten it, but all the bolts are in fact tight :?

So somewhere along the line I have another shot bush(es), or a knackered wheel bearing/hub. Either way, she shouldn't have passed the MOT :nono:

:o I thought a major part of the MOT involved the tester to actually shake the wheels while its on a ramp? Maybe at some point its worth checking all the bushes (just in case)
The tester may have missed something you may not

I have no doubt in my mind that he didn't even attempt to shake that wheel. Imagine you've slackened all 4 (or 5 ;-) ) wheel nuts on one wheel about 2-3 whole revolutions... Well that's how it felt pulling on it last night

If I don't get chance during the week, I'll be having the wheels off again over the weekend to see what's what.

Exactly. I wish he'd failed it due to that, then at least the issue would be flagged up so either he or I could have fixed it

I'm sure it's nothing too serious. Worst come to worse, it's not like I don't have a second Prelude not doing anything at the moment to rob parts from ;-)

If it is bushes that need replacing then I may as well rob them from the project lude if (they're decent enough), as I'm going to be poly-bushing that one anyway.
