I would have got cameras up but they were all in the space of a year and we were hoping to have sold the house long ago.

The annoying thing is, catching them in the act does nothing really. What are U going to do? Hold them by the scruff and wait half an hour for the police to arrive to see you assaulting someone?

I'm pretty sure i know who has been keying mine and i would love to go up to her and run my key down her face and see how she feels about it? Then i still lose out.

Keying a car feels like an un punishable crime unless you have solid cctv proof even then your gonna go to court? They might have to pay something , they might get community service but i feel that route doesn't get you any better off than filing an insurance claim and paying the excess. It makes me so angry

This makes my blood boil. When I first bought my soarer some prick keyed the rear panel and drivers door and I had only had it 3 days!£300 a panel out of my pocket to get it fixed! Don't even ask what I would have done to the effing sod if I knew who it was!
I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Depending on the circumstances, yes. Many years ago, when I worked in a bike shop, my colleagues and I gave chase to 4 shoplifters. They split, so we split. Adrenaline infused story short, once we'd caught them (3 of them anyway) the only way we were getting them back to the shop was to grab them by the back of the shirt and march them. Once the police had arrived we mentioned to them how we'd been unsure of what to do once we'd caught them. They said as long as we handled ourselves we were allowed to use reasonable force to restrain them/and or get them to a holding area... A citizen's arrest if you will.

All the time we were waiting for police to turn up as well, you could see them absolutely bricking themselves! One was crying constantly, pleading for us to let him go! That was the most satisfying thing

Also, I used to have teenagers running through my garden a lot in the summer months, as it was a shortcut for them to get to the park behind my house. That was until I became wise to it and started catching them (2 literally by their hoods  ). I caught 6 of them on 3 different occasions. Word must have got around because I told them to tell their friends and I haven't seen any since. I'm a nice person (I'd say), but being 6'3, in my 30's, able to drag 2 at time and point a finger right in their face whilst I'm laying into them, I imagine I could be quite intimidating

I'd never hit a kid, but I would happily put one on the floor and sit on them to make a phone-call to the police ;)

Unfortunately society has changed quite a bit over the past few years - working with kids day to day i have seen a big shift in their self respect and respect for property in particular. If theybreak an Iphone they get a new one, lose or damage their £80 Hurache's =new pair the next week.
Causing damage to someone else's property is nothing. The chance of getting caught or proving they are involved is minimal. That and kids now believe they are untouchable - like has been said they believe they cannot be 'touched' by an adult or they claim assault - even when they have instigated situations. Just be careful with those sort of situations because Police/Social Services etc can be very quick to jump to their defense/protection before proper investigation. Where possible always have a witness to support your side!
Hopefully it will get better in time :x

just wait and catch them on their own in a nice dark place and leave the little dancer in no doubt as to him getting away with all his apendages uncrushed was a lucky day for him.

but then i have been known to grab a little dancer and when he said his dad was gonna get me, i marched him home to ask his dad to step outside as his son had done some damage and when i asked him to pay he had said his dad would beat me. The dad didnt step outside but his mum came round the next day with cash

This is how Merc would have appeared on their front lawn mind, so it's understandable why it's easy for him...

What would I do? Beat them to the floor, stamp all over their hands and then go home leaving them bleeding.. sod the Police, they don't do anything any more.
