Best dashcam for the money at the moment is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-0803-Amb ... 1e913ae45f - although i paid just over £50 for mine a couple of months ago.

The 0805 has just been released too, which us a few quid more.

Looks good. Might be tempted to get one. I come across so many tool bags on my short journey to work  ...

Agree with Shiny, although I don't have one, the Mini series are good cameras, and are very discreet due to their size.

Definitely look at the 0805 though, as the 0803 had a few problems with overheating and the mount becoming loose. This was fixed for later revisions, but there's no guarantee you'll get a good one!!

It was the model before the 0803 that had the heating problems. The 0803 has more vents and is supposed to be OK, but I think there has still been the occasional one. The 0805 has not long been out.

The trouble with almost any cam sub £200 is that you have no guarantee of the insides as the cases are often generic.

I must admit though, I love the X4000 I have in the ATR, but the 0803 in the Civic is so much more discreet and better quality.

Glad I found this thread, I want to buy a dash-cam in July..

I quite like the look of the SJ4000 HD fake GoPro's that Nafe linked. I also like the look of the Mini 0805 Ambarella's but as they vary from £50 - £110, I think the chance of me getting a dodgy one is quite high (because I would buy one of the cheaper ones)

Are there fakes of fakes with the SJ4000 as well? I found them pretty damn cheap from Germany... and then there's this which claims to be geniune SJCAM not fake SJ4000HD ..drokking hell I hate eBay

Yes! And it's actually quite difficult to tell. Mine does not have SJCAM but is the original knock off
It's one of the earlier ones.
Funnily enough I was reading up on it again this week even though I've had mine a while, as I read something that made me think mine might be fake. It's not, but unfortunately the best indicator is actually the firmware and menu screens, which of course you won't be able to check until you have it. :?
Must say, the quality of the video really is excellent. :)

Cool, thanks guys.. so I shouldn't worry too much about getting a fake. Some claim to have WiFi, do yours ..and does it actually work? I read a few reviews of these cams on Amazon and am finding out that some people have worse luck than others.

So I guess the question is, are the £60 fakes going to be better/different to the £20 ones?

Mine's a £60 SJ4000 without wifi. I didn't want it actually, figured for me it would be a gimmick that I would then never use.
I guess you could buy from someone like amazon 'directly', one that is described as an SJ4000, and hope for the best?
