My old car was in an accident... left it at a garage in the unit next door to work, work and employees all use that garage. It stayed there while insurance company were faffing about what to do. I go on holiday, work falls out with garage, garage scrap my written off car without telling me or doing the paperwork. Couldn't be arsed to deal with it, never got a new red V5, got tax reminders for I think around 3 years. Then they suddenly just stopped. :?

Hope for the same?

Good point.

I'll double check which V5 I've got. If I have the old one & not been sent a new one then I will send a letter explaining the situation. I have a feeling a don't have the new v5.

Gorgon, did you declare the car as sorn when the reminders came through?

Yeah just kept sorning it.

Not saying it's the best way to go about it :lol: but that's just what happened to me. Could be that the garage had a paperwork sort out and got around to doing it... :? although tbh they're a bit crooked anyway so I doubt that.

You're in one of those situations where doing the right thing could end up costing you. :cry:

Can you do that without a scrap cert?
yeh, people do it on ebay all the time, if it came back into the uk it wouldnt matter as it would need to be re-registered anyhow. who is to say the same guy didnt buy the chassis and engine. but i think if you phone then and explain it would be ok, the part about the 5k fine is if you are delibratly defrauding the system somehow, you could always say the slip off the v5 was sent into dvla at the time, hey they must have lost it :lol: how can you get a fine if its unprovable :o

So the confusion continues;

I tried to make a SORN declaration online and they can't find reference to my document number / reg number combination. Also I haven't been sent to new style log book either.

It comes back around to the original issue which I didn't think was related. I had trouble sorting out the paperwork when I first had the car and ended up with 2 V5 documents by some administrative balls up. I think this is where the issue has come from and they're sending me reminders against the second document.

Sounds like you don't need to worry about it mate. Sounds like they have a contradiction in their database, but the important thing is that they don't think the car is registered to you (Otherwise you would have received the new style red V5 by now).
