My aunt used to have a huge Alsatian called teddy, I was a kid at the time and I remember he was soft as anything with family, he was like his namesake. My aunt lived out in the sticks in an old cottage with crappy sash windows and she came home from the stables one day to find somebody had tried to get in through the dining room window - whoever it was had got so far as getting part way in before the dog got him, the intruder managed to get away but he left a fair amount of his blood behind  The dog was fine, he was back in his bed like nothing had happened by the time my aunt was home :) The police were quite impressed with him at the time apparently

haha a similar thing happened with my dog, my misses & sister were walking him one night and stopped to clean up his mess when a man walked behind them and grabbed my sisters bag. then the next thing they knew the dog had him on the floor, so they both crapped it, dropped his lead & ran. he is a softy aswell he is brilliant with my kids. (hate to be anal but a alsation is a german shepherd they changed the name because of ww2)

No worries matey I know they're the same but Alsation is less typing/what we've always called them in my family :)

Dogs are great for security :) My girlfriend was walking one of our labs by herself a year or so ago now, she was out on the tracks up behind our old house whilst it was dark and there was a chap walking down the opposite way to her. He was on the other side of the road/track, but as he got closer he moved on to the same side as Laura so he was walking directly at her. Not specifically a threat but odd all the same, the dog twigged it and despite being a soppy lump all his life he stood his ground whilst growling between Laura and the stranger - needless to say the bloke went back to the other side  Our dog has not got a problem with strangers (he even tries to get in other people's cars and houses whilst we're out  ), so presumably he had some comprehension that Laura was vulnerable and that the man might have been trouble under the circumstance. It does make me glad to have the dogs around knowing they look out for us :)
