Not really, giving rep is limited.

You can only give out 5 x reps out before you run out. You earn 1 back each day. If you receive +rep yourself, you earn a new rep to pass on. There are other ways too, but thats top secret

And they are far better than post counts for judging if someone is a trust worthy good seller for example (cough!).

If we turned off the 'spread' off, you really could just sit there hitting +rep all day which really would be "just group of people giving points to each other for posting pictures or jokes". You can't say it works one way and have it the other too

Rep isn't just about buying and selling, it's also about being of the community and 'joining in' - just as important in building 'trust'.

You will build your rep over time.

i couldnt care less about rep points same as i didnt care for post counts either. for me forums are a good source of info, coupled with great people always up for a laugh (usually at the expence of other members

) but mostly its about comunity

yeh sure people get ribbed but its fun too

its what i can see that system need bit more tweak

now i will wait till i find 10 people with something what i believe they deserve point for so i can give point someone who really help out

hey if folk want to give each other rep points for the sake of it thats cool too, doesnt really make any difference, i can see why its there, was a good idea, but if they are easly earnd then it kinda underminds the original idea

giving rep for new members is a great ice breaker, but we all need to decide is rep points to each other just a high five

I think it's up to the individual.
I won't give them out if someone tells a funny joke.

If you've spent some time and effort on your car and I think you've done a good job, you get some rep points.

I've only given out one lot of +rep points so far... And that was for some great info I'd not seen before. I've given out one lot of -Rep points to, but that was after knowing that member had just been given +rep for a really bad joke

I'll be using mine sparingly

The worst issueing of +rep I've seen is to new members purely for signing up and saying hello. Surely that's completely defeating the object of it?

i have only given out one lot so far, because he helped me out, and is a good member.

newbies i can understand as it may encourage them to get involved

rep points for good ideas too is great, but i dont think anyone will actually notice or even care about someone elses points in the same way that no one really cared about post counts (exept nitin

if you have a problem and you ask a question, does anyone really only take notice of another member just because his rep points are higher than someone elses,
if your buying however it does have its merrits in a buy with confidents kind of way

but this could be undermined if rep points are given just nillydilly.
i will put the soap box away as internet forums are a free for all and there fun that way

you see and all what you said is smart and really deserve rep point as i clearly see you care about forum and how is run, please put REP point on clear sheet of paper from me as i cant give you another one here
