Yes. As there are dicks out there who will spot you bought the .co.uk, and then buy the .com so they can sell it to you.

This indeed. I know this only too well, thankfully though - if you ignore them long enough and not visit the .com site etc. they'll let it go so you can buy it as normal from a registrar again.
