Thinking of breaking

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Thinking of breaking

Post by bluejackhustler » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:13 pm

Hey all

I need some help deciding the fate of the Lude.

I have to have something more economical, me and the girlfriend need to own our own house
and saving up is taking too long.

I will miss it. It has been loved by me for seven years and therefore I do this with great reluctance.

Image

Spec is as follows.
1995 BB3 with a VTEC conversion

Full Wings West lip kit
16" honda multispokes
DC sports front strut brace
AEM V1
Whiteline rear anti roll bar
BC racing coilovers
2WS with Megan Racing toe arms
Legend twin piston front brake calipers
Facelift interior
Flourescent speedo/rev counter

Not sure what it would be worth complete but I'm sure it would make more if broken?

Please be as honest as you can guys, I do value your opinions.

Andy!!!

Don't break it!! It's too nice!
Sell it whole. There are too many good Preludes being broken for profit. :nono:

Well I know someone who would have the side skirts off you in a heart beat (assuming they are Wings West? I can't quite tell).

But seriously no mate! If you're seriously reluctant to sell/break it now, I can guarantee you will seriously regret it later on. So many members have sold their preludes hoping to save a few bob in the long run, but mere months down the line they're back on here looking for a new one as they just can't cope without a Prelude any longer. I've only just bought a new one myself as my other lude has been off the road for a year and a half and I simply just missed driving it too too much. I think this may just be a Prelude thing, as I've never known so many owners of one particular kind of car sell one, only to miss it that much after such a short while, that they have to satisfy their need once more... I think it's an addiction :?

Is there any way you could put it into storage for a time until you're financially better off?

I agree with Pushki, sell it as a whole (even though you may get slightly less than breaking) it will take less time and as said above its just too nice to break. Work out how much you could make breaking it (realistically) and put it up for sale not too much less, I'm sure somebody who wants it will pay... I was going to break an old Mr2 I had then i just decided to sell it for A LOT more than I though it was worth, even in pieces. You just need the right buyer .. ;)

Bare in mind breaking a lude it takes time to sell stuff. Most non OEM parts go quickly but then your left with a shell on your drive.

Unless you can strip it and store all the parts till eventually they sell.

If I had the cash i'd buy it off you as a whole as that's the colour I want mine to be. If you do break I might be interested in the shell/doors/boot/wings/bumpers and I'll rebuild it out of parts I have here. It's too good to scrap

You inconsiderate buggers.... there I was with my mind made up on selling/breaking and you bring up so many valid points

I do have somewhere to keep it for as long as I need to.

I've just reinsured it at a cost of £480

I then got a quote with the same car but with no modifications and it came down to £230.

I also use the girlfriends 106 sometimes and although it's not at all exiting to drive it will do 45 mpg all day long. Not to mention the motorbike that I now use to travel to work which will do 100mpg.

Lots of things have just got me thinking how much I could save if I had something different.
Perhaps JayJay, a kick in the nuts is what I need to bring me to my senses!!!

I know where you are though (I mean situation wise, I haven't been tracking you just in case you do need that kick ). My girlfriend is also asking about a house, but the car is taking up double yours in insurance, and then there's at least £200 petrol a month! But I can guarantee I'd be a sadder person if I had a boring drive in to work each morning ;)

Keep it and just use the other cars as much as possible, but you'll know what to do should you ever fancy a *fun* drive :D
