Lude Cam

Post by Pushki » Thu Mar 08, 2012 2:28 pm

About two weeks ago at 5am, a few kids came into our carpark and tried to nick one of our cars.
Luckily one of my neighbours was awake and shouted at them out of the window. They ran off.

That was the final straw for me, so I bought one of these......

This is a screenshot of the camera view. Sadly I can't zoom out or move the camera remotely (cheap camera) but it alerts me when there's activity and it's also a visual deterrent.

I bought some stickers from eBay to put on my car windows as an added deterrent.

There are some limitations to this setup. I have to keep my PC on all the time for it to record all the activity.
I'm thinking I may eventually buy a cheap PC purely dedicated to watching my car.

So is the camera obvious from outside, even in the night?

Yes. I've attached it to the wall.
The IR LEDs glow red at night.

Sounds good. It's a shame it's had to come to this though  Tell you I'd go medieval on someone if they tried to damage or steal my car.

Here's another example of why I bought it.
Cars using the carpark to turn around and reversing dangerously close.

Good idea, shame we live in society where we have to resort to doing things like this

I used to write software for a company that sold and maintained IP Cameras. If you guys want to invest, got somewhere like this: http://www.networkwebcams.co.uk/ and buy something by Panasonic that takes an SD Card. It'll record anything it detects to the sd card, and you can review this when you get home - no need to keep a pc running.
