little steering wheel refurb

Post by lewd lude lover » Wed Mar 14, 2012 4:28 pm

got home early so i got out my art attack kit out and spruced up my wheel.

i bought it off mercutio i think? anyway the leather got a really good soak and rub with 'leather genie' which brings back old leather like nothing iv known.

it looked like this

so i took it to bits and had a go with good old autosol metal polish and some 3M 1080 carbon wrap i had left.

i think its quite an improvement 8-)

Nice one! That's quite the phallic looking grip you have there too!

the new 3M CF12 is great. it is almost indestructable and forms beautifully with a little heat.

its also the only one iv seen that looks at all like real carbon. for a given value of 'real'

im going to do a few hilights on the interior. door handles for one. i always thought they looked so gash.

Great job 8-)

Carbon wrap looks pretty authentic in the pictures.

Do you mean the lever that opens the door from the inside? I always thought they looked liked they came from a Christmas cracker

^^^same. the whole part is gash. i will wrap the whole door handle part. the bit with the tweeter mounted in it. i dont want to go mad   but i do want to get it looking a little better.

you can get this stuff in clear format 8-) you just have to decide on a colour under it.

I toyed with the idea of doing this when i colour matched my interior but was put off by the thought that it may be overkill.

But with the CF wrap it is probably gonna be a lot more subtle so should work nicely 8-)

Especially if you already have the CF surrounds/inserts :!:

8-)

the wheel came as an extra to the prelude boss  i couldnt find one to save my life at the time.

its nice to drive with, makes the car very responsive

@macky_6: to be honest i will prob be wrapping the oem 'carbon' parts as well  they really dont look much like carbon and once the other parts are done they will look shoddy. im going to have to be careful is all. overkill is a close line with things like this..
