Anyone tried these for classic insurance?

Car insurance for the Datsun, all mods declared, EU breakdown cover, £100 excess - £130

Says that cars have to be over 10 years old which isn't a problem for us (Mines nearly 20)

Need to check this out when I re-insure mine back on to the road. I tried a couple of the usual brokers for classic car insurance and they wouldn't do it - especially heavily modified. I planned to contact a number of actual insurers that deal just with classics. Cos it is a classic now, none on the road and mine has been lovingly restored (and then slightly altered in places). Let us know if anyone else tries for a quote.

Generally speaking the only modification that Classic car insurers accept is modernisation, such as electric starters, indicators etc

The other criteria (as mentioned above) is that there normally has to be another main mode of transport, limited mileage and some insist on it being garaged.

Also you don't generally get NCB on a classic policy, so if you go two or more years on it, you will lose your current NCB and will have to start from scratch if you change you car to one that doesn't fit on a classic policy.

well its only supposed to be for a car thats not your daily so your ncb will always be on your daily

You earn NCB per policy you have, so if you have 3 private car policies, you will have 3 lots of NCB. You won't earn NCB on most classic car policies though.

Try Lancaster insurance for a classic car policy. They are very competative. I've got the Aerodeck insured with them for the second year running. As Shiny stated though, you don't earn NCB and it's for a limited mileage as it's not my daily, but still worth it for the savings if you can qualify.

We used to have an agency with Lancaster, but stopped dealing with them must have been 4 years or so ago. Nothing wrong with them from what i can remember, i think it was maybe that we didn't have enough business with them.

We now only use CCUA (Towergate), they are OK, but don't like mods. Used to be better before Towergate bought them out. You could choose the Insurer and i always put my cases with Aviva (Norwich Union).
