What's the plan now - you gonna take the head off yourself to check or take it somewhere?

My set up is a lot less than ideal where I am. Basically I have a road to work on So I think I'll leave it all for the pros. Shame though... It'll be the first time I've ever had to hand her over to anyone else to work on

I can't remember if I said, but there's an ex-mechanic (who I'm going to get in contact with through a guy at work) with is own set up for all his own toys as well. I think he's got Austin Martins and the like and knows his cars. Apparently he can do it for a reduced rate which will be good

I was also thinking along the lines of getting a cheap little run around, so as I wouldn't have to use the lude so dependantly. But I'll try calling this chap tomorrow and see what he says first.

That's what I was discussing with Rob on sunday... Literally a couple of hours before it went I don't actually know when it was done last. The car's done 90,000 miles now, so in theory should have been done, but because I didn't know I examined the belt and it all looked good. I didn't really want to be throwing £300 away if it had been done recently by a previous owner. Obviously it was just a bad call on my part

Hi Nathan, was looking through your progress on the thread and i have to say she is looking absolutely gorgeous. Then i say the last posts really gutted for you. Hope nothing fouled in the head and there is no damage. If needs be i have a spare H22 here and if you want could fit for you should you need it, however would recommend a new belt etc. hope you get it sorted. Marc

I've spoken to the chap who's going to stick a new belt on it. He's picking it up tuesday hopefully. He's not too familiar with vtecs, but is switched on. I explained to him that as I wasn't in VTEC the chances are I got away without causing any damage.

Am I going to be taking a "ridiculous" gamble if we just stick a belt on her and start her up though? If I get him to do a compression test first and all appears well, we should be good to go right?

hpefully not m8.. but if you do need it then just to let you know that my engine gets serviced every 3 months with silkolene and it has only 100k kilometres on the clock...so the head will be in very good condition.. but i'm really wishing you the best luck with it m8..
