Hummm.....polishing is fine it adds nothing to the finish but helps take away lacquer to remove swirls/scratches. Wax seals. Even if he has 16 years i know waxing is a huge no no.NafemanNathan wrote:I'm confident Mike knows what he's doing Ratty. He's got 16 years and I think he said around 1000 cars under his belt. As you said, different painters have different techniques. Before he even took on my car we had a discussion about me not polishing it for a good length of time after I have the car back, so I'm sure again Mike just does things differently to you. Also as said before, he's said he'll be etch priming it as well... He's a busy guy and I'm just glad his happy throwing emails together just to keep me informed, so I can easily understand him missing out the odd detail
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Re: Nathan's BA4 3rd Gen
I do believe I remembered the polishing conversation wrong. We basically agreed he was going to give me a "what to and what not to do" when I picked up the carRattyMcClelland wrote:Hummm.....polishing is fine it adds nothing to the finish but helps take away lacquer to remove swirls/scratches. With regards to waxing I'll wait for him to respond to me. (I'm not saying I don't believe you by the way

Just so you know Nath, pretty much all of my posts in this build will consist of that smiley. Until it's done and I can finish up and admire the finished article.

Oh and for some added drama, I'd agree with Ratty on the no waxing front, you gotta let the paint breathe for a while. Got told the same when mine was done. Give or take the not so great outcome on Marts lude (Sorry Mart), but he still has Gayno's and 1000's of up to 50 year old VW's under his belt. But I'm intrigued to see what he comes back with. I reckon you just have a mind like a seive!
