A bit of progress

Post by NafemanNathan » Sat Feb 23, 2013 9:58 pm

So in order to get this exhaust back together I started of by removing the knackered old studs from the exhaust manifold and cleaning out the threads with a tap...

Image

Image

As I had an all new centre section and downpipe already, the only other existing part was going to be the backbox...

Image

Although when I came to remove it earlier today I was glad I had a new centre section as although there was no obvious flaws in it beside the obvious corrosion, this happened when I came to undo the backbox

Image

Mind you, the bodged backbox doesn't look like it's got much left in it either  ...

Image

So I assembled that lot...

Image

Image

With Stainless nuts and bolts, so I shouldn't have much issue removing the backbox again in the near future when I get a better one...

Image

New exhaust manifold gasket...

Image

And bolted it all up in place again...

Image

And then slapped on my nearly new Green filter that I had left over from my old Rallye...

Image

Syphoned off 15 litres of fuel from the Aerodeck, filled her up and then after a good minute or so of continious turning over she fired up. Seems she's over fueling a bit, so job on the cards tomorrow is to clean the plugs. Also it starting hunting between 1000 and 2000 revs, so I've whipped the IACV off to give it a clean. It was looking like this inside...

Image

Image

Image

Image

:puke:

And yes, she has drilled and grooved discs...

Image

And although I've not confirmed the rears yet, the fronts are exactly the same size and I think even the same brand of discs as the ones on my Aerodeck...

Image

So hopefully I have a full set of spares :D

I also offered up one of my RH Classics to see what the offset is so I can get an idea of the new rims I plan to get. Hoping to order them Monday

Image

Image

There's a good amount of poke and it's only going to be worse with the new rims, but being the car is off to the bodyshop next weekend it shall all be delt with ;-)

Image

Oh and between hunting, the car sounds awesome! :D It's loud, but sound real good. Comparable to a motorbike 8)

MOT time (Attempt 1)

Post by NafemanNathan » Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:01 pm

I'm surprised no one's mentioned blue waffle yet

So, do I or don't I? ...

I've seen some of my favourite rims that would cause this much offset on the rears and a good amount on the front as well. It's a lot of additional arch work than initially intended, but I love what it could look like. Only thing I'm thinking is that the rear (especially) needs to be lower, but I can't afford to (speedbump wise), so the other option would be to run a slightly larger tyre on the back :scaredtoss:

Also, she's in for MOT today, although I have no doubt she'll fail  She's running so rich at the moment that she won't start again after you turn her off and saturating the plugs, and she's still hunting. I've ordered a new dizzy cap though as the contacts are shot and new plugs also, so finger's crossed that should help big time. And apparently the thermo sensors on these play up which can cause over fueling, but I just looked this morning and it turns out an H22a's sensor is the exact same, so I'll be swapping that over too.

are you going to flare the arches? or get those rivit on ones?

how would it effect the 4ws? I know its more pronounced on movement on the 3g

and yes blue waffle, you had to remind me  :puke:

I did put one of my universal archs on, but it didn't look right from the side...

Image

Didn't look too bad from an angle, but not sure if it's just because they're the wrong colour and have the rivet recesses :? ...

Image

Image

I'd be running them with a stretched tyres, so the arches wouldn't need to protrude as far as those universal ones either, but I'd rather they were all new metal 8)
