New Custom Alternator Bracket & Richbrook R2 Steering Wheel
So, as I plan on running a subtley smaller high output D-Series Alternator in conjunction with a smaller diameter S2000 crank pulley and want to relocate the alternator to the lesser obvious aircon pump location, I was going to require a custom bracket.
So I designed one... Had the profiles lasercut in mild steel... Then had one of our fabricators at work weld it up for me. I've still got to open up one of the top holes and tap the other one, then sort the tensioning element of it (possibly salvaging a few bits from my OEM one), but here's a few pictures to give you an idea...

And with the Alternator trial fitted...

I went to fix it to the car to see how it looks, but it currently fouls on the cross member...

No biggy though, as I'm currently running a group buy for Innovative Engine Mounts and Traction bars, which I'm first on the list for
so it should clear the traction bar no problem. (The traction bars are much slimmer than OEM front cross members and mount slightly further forward.) And even if it still doesn't fit, this bracket was intended to be a trial concept anyway, and if it worked I was going to get one made in aluminium as it's obviously much lighter than mild steel... Even though this one is still lighter than the cast OEM version (Mild steel is just much cheaper for the R&D). So any alterations can't simply be made when I come to sorting the aluminium version.
Then refering back to engine mounts, as I'm now in the mind to try running without a front engine mount, I almost removed it today... But then thought I'll need it to help support the engine for when I come to swap the other three engine mounts... So I left it.
... Not really an update, but hey
Then I finally had a new steering wheel arrive the other day. I've been on the look out for a bargain one for ages, as I've fitted my Richbrook R1 wheel in the daily lude. I'm quite particular when it comes to steering wheels and sadly even the second hand ones I wanted were still going for over £60! Anyway, one popped up the other day, on ebay, of course, and I thought I'll have that for the starting bid thank you very much!... So I did! It's a Richbrook R2!
...

I love how my R1 feels and the R2 is essentially the same... Just all Black
It didn't come with a horn or the retaining ring, but I didn't want to run that anyway. And apart from the listing saying it was used there is absolutely no evidence that it has been. It does look brand new
Not bad for less than £15 delivered

Very nice! love custom fabrication!
I could do with moving my altenator up a bit as it gets in the way of my turbo inlet, but it will get very close to the manifold so decided to leave it.
As you say the traction bar WILL solve you problem so no worries. As for the engine mount, with the other mounts upgraded it will be fine. And If not I suggest you custom make a bracket with an engine damper.
Keep it up!
BTW LOVE your air intake

Re: Nathan's Road-Legal/Track/Show BB4
Yeah, fortunately I don't really have much of anything to interfere with much of anything!
And yeah, I'm not really fretting about having no front mount, but at least if there are any issues, I'm in the ideal job to design one and get it made
Cheers for your kind words

I'm sure me and Rob could do something about that
