Re: BB4 Daily Drive-MOT happiness/New Manifold

I dunno Nafe maybe you could take your mani off and see what is written on yours - its stamped into a raised oval just under the manifold - just curious as its a 1994 model

Ahh sorry I read it wrong... I thought you'd meant it was stamped into the manifold. It's not lined up with cylinder 1's exhaust runner is it?

Compression test

Post by vanzep » Sat Dec 01, 2012 2:58 pm

sorry nafe didnt see your last post - yeah your probably right its under no.1 cyclider at the exhaust manifold ;)

Bit of an update - but no pics

finally decide to carry out a compression test
results as follws:
cylinder 1 - 13,1
cylinder 2 - 13.0
cylinder 3 - 13.3
cylinder 4 - 13.0
it was quite difficult to get exact figures as the guage markings wernt the best but all 4 cyclinders were at 13 or more. according to nukes build thread 13.0 is 185psi (thanks for the info rob ;) )which is the figure for a brand new ukdm engine. My engine is a jdm but high mileage so not too bad.
what it did show up was the fact that the magencor ht leads or the disti were on the way out as i couldnt get the car started after the test so had to swap in some spares. it now starts on the button but the idle drops to a stall once the engine is up to temp. Im hoping that just a slight rotation on the dizzy to advance the ignition a bit should sort that out. I now need to read up to find the right way to rotate the dizzy inorder to do this and id also like to find out how you can visually check the disti to check that its not 180 degrees out.

Dizzy can't be 180 out on a lude man, the notch is offset. Only fits one way.

Compression seems fairly positive!

cheers Graham you are a font of knowledge :D
re:timing. so maybe i can just loosen the dizzy mounting bolts and turn it slightly - you dont happen to know which way i turn it do you in order to advance it- or am i best to take the cap off and rotate the arm?

the compression results look ok just wish i had a better graduated dial on it so i could get a more accurate figure - i still dont know what the H22A1 figures should be but i guess as there is no big variation then thats ok.

Good results bud. 8)

Glad I could help out. :D

I'm not sure what the factory H22A stats are either (not H22A1  ), I've seen all sorts of results, but as long as it's not stupidly low and it's consistent across all 4 cylinders I wouldn't worry.

Advance is, IIRC, towards the firewall.

cheers guys thanks for the good info 8-)
now i just need to fix the exhaust and cooling system asap and then get a look at the bodywork - i can start looking at the milano red wings and pass side door i got from dino and see how it all goes together and look at how that matches in but either way i will be looking at partial respray/blend on the roof, bootlid and both rear quarters.....
so what was i saying about not having a lot left to do......problem is i want it all done now and thats not going to be possible :?

Re: BB4 -Exhausted

Post by vanzep » Thu Dec 06, 2012 3:59 pm

Well as it was raining today i decided it was a good opportunity to get soaked and covered in mud
yes it was time to fix my blowing exhaust which had broken in the centre section again
Luckily I had help from CraigJDM - first we had to take the exhaust of the donor car which was easy peasy - we just seperated it at the mani/downpipe and took the exhaust off in one section - then we had to take the dc mani and oem exhaust off my lude - not so easy  - then it was time to put the powerflow system on and the new mani(cant remember what the make is..) - quite difficult to get all the rubber exhaust mounts in but we finally wrestled it into place and hey presto no blowing exhaust - its quite with a lovely deep burble and feel like i have a bit more power low down - so im really please with the results and the tailpipes sit perfectly a couple of milimeters below the wings west lip so no need to cut and hack the lip :D
It was too dark and miselrable to get any pics of the new system in place but just a couple of snaps of the old system - bye bye oem 8-) Image

bye the way here is the stamp saying No.1.94 on the block just under the mani - still wondering what it means :?
Image

Cheers guys for your help and to show my appreciation Michael got a set of part worn front pads and Craig got a mugen oil cap which i swapped for his 5th gen one.Im all heart :)
Cant believe ive now got a 5th gen part on my 4th gen - lets hope thats where it ends

Also got a red and black interior fitted so will get some pics up in the next couple of days!
