Re: Clutch problems

Post by JohnnyB » Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:08 pm

The Piratelude is looking pretty shabby at the moment. Combined with clutch issues this caused me to take her off the road last March. Since it's been nearly a year now I decided I should probably pull my finger out so the overhaul has started, but it's going to take a while!!

I intend to take bits off as I get to them and either clean up or repair them - Not much spare cash at the moment so new bits will probably be thin on the ground and only purchased when really needed!

Anyway, obligatory pics of the culmination of a few hours work yesterday afternoon...

In the last pic of the starter motor you can see a nice big chunk of housing missing - This looks ominous so I'll definitely be investigating further as it's likely to be related to the clutch issues. The question is did it cause the old clutch to fail or the new one? I will be asking the garage that changed it over if they spotted the damage last time. I don't think it's a problem now, I will more than likely clean it up and replace it as is, but why is it missing and where did the material go?! :?

note: I've since spoken to the garage and they noticed the chunk out of the starter motor last time so this may be a red herring. They found the metal rolled into a nice ball which dropped out when they took the old clutch off. Nice... I'm guessing I will have some other lovely broken bits to ponder over as I delve deeper..!

She is a beaut. Some very nice mods there :)

I'm anything but a computer geek. I probably couldn't hate anything more than to have a computer in my car  But what you say you've done with the keyboard and mouse... "sounds" cool ;-) You got any pics of it.

Where'd you get your carbon fibre door handle from as well? I'm assuming it's the external ones, not the internal?

Only thing bad about it, is I'd say it's a shame you weren't able to paint the engine bay as well. Otherwise super! super! :D

Cheers matey :) I don't know if I'm keeping the interior let alone the PC with this overhaul but this is what the keyboard and mouse thing looked like before:

And here are the carbon door handles - I got them off eBay some time ago, I presume they were custom made in a small batch as they seem to come up very rarely:

Regarding the engine bay I couldn't agree more. In fact I've told myself this time one of my goals is to get an engine stand, rebuild the engine and respray the bay, boot and door shuts. The gearbox is coming out anyway so why not?!
