Re: Merlin's 4G Track Lude
A wee teaser pic. And also to bump my thread onto another page in preparation for this weekends big update, page 4 takes ages to load due to the pics and vids.
Front lower arms painted and polybushed:
Its impossible to fit new front wheel studs without taking out the front wheel bearing (PITA!!) Unless....... you take an angle grinder and shave off a few millimeters off the front of the knuckle. This will allow you to hammer out the old studs one by one when rotating the hub round, then flip it over and do the reverse to get the new ones back in
Shaving the knuckle:

The finished suspension - On the road
Its finally finished and I took it for its wheel alignmtent today so its ready to drive .
This is not what the final ride height will be:
Shiny bits!
My new strut brace:
Before the alignment it felt horrible but after being tweaked its perfect. I had a chat with the guy and in the end I have gone for a little more toe on the rear wheels to introduce a little oversteer, I am told this will help get the rear of the car through the corner. With my new bits on the car I was concerned that I would bottom out at one point of Knockhill so I didnt lower the car that much. The wheel alignment guy said that I should run the car like that for a few weeks and see how the setup feels, then drop it and he'll do me a re-adjustment for free . I have been driving it around for most of the day and the difference is unbelievable, partly through my original setup being Clubbing Eddy.
No fitting of the new lip, skirts, and bombed wing yet, me and 3rdGenSteve only finished the suspension at 2am this morning

Re: Merlin's 4G Track Lude - On the road!
Cheers. I think 50-60 man hours went into that over 3 weeks. It took that amount of time due to doing it all while on axle stands and using hand tools, plus all the painting. Everything was broken down, including the brakes, cleaned and painted bar a few wee brackets. New bushes, balljoints, and wheel studs all round. The track day is tomorrow but I hope there is no snow tonight.

The pics flatter it as I took them from the best side . Both rear arches have rust and on the drivers side I have a hole at the bottom of the wheel arch just before it meets the sill. Its something im going to tackle in the spring.rob quilter wrote:Love the way this is a track lude, yet it looks drokking mint, no rust or anything!
