I popped down the scrappy today and picked up a switch. I figured the trim had been replaced and not bothered to cut a hole for the switch. haven't taken off my door card yet but confident the wiring will be there.

anyone know if its an mot fail to not be able to adjust the mirrors? as I was thinking I could just take the card off, connect the switch to position the mirrors and then put it back as it is now in case I bodge the nice leather trying to cut a hole for it.

thanks for all the help, its been a very warm welcome!

Shouldn't be an MOT fail I wouldn't have thought. You only need a driver's side for one and as long as it has a mirror in it, who's to say YOU can't see in it with your driving position ;-)

As for the hole in the door card, feel around the insert as there's a chance they simply covered over the whole with the cream leather. If so, you'd need to remove the door card anyway to locate the wire, so if you can see the hole from the underside, you can simply cut the leather carefully corner to corner forming 4 triangles, and then insert your newly acquired switch.

The switch you got from the scrappy, was that from the door card? If so you know where to feel for the hole.

Don't think it's an MOT failure as you can still (forcibly) move/adjust the mirrors like a manual mirror car. As for the switch, no reason why you couldn't just leave it behind the door card, but I'd like the switch personally. This is assuming no-one has covered the hole over - fibreglass or something. The switch is larger than the hole, so gives some margin for bodging the cut to be fair. I managed to retrim my inserts and get the switch in and I'm no retrimmer!

Good luck whichever route you choose. Need any pointers removing the door card and then the insert from the doorcard, just shout. :D

Well half the reason i like to go to a scrappy for parts is so i can have a crack at removing stuff before doing it on my own car! lol. so i know how to do the dor card now.
Will whip it off tomorrow and see whats what. i cant feel a hole for the switch but like i said im not too bothered about having it there, just need to adjust the passenger side mirror as all i can see out of it is the side of the car!

So once that is sorted i just have about 50 other issues to crack on with!

If you're not bothered about having adjustable mirrors, just wind your window down, reach out and adjust the mirror by hand, wind your window up again. Job done, no need to go to scrappy, no need to remove door cards searching for holes and wires.. but as you've been and got one already, you may as well fit it mate.
