I thought so :) How much of it was influenced by the fact I said that if I was happy with his prices and the quality, I had two other cars that need work I don't know

Valve Cover Painted

Post by NafemanNathan » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:36 pm

Time for a bit more engine sprucing.

The valve cover by all means isn't that bad considering it's still wearing its original OEM paint, but it does come across as a little shabby. So... Dan (Razor) was kind enough to agree to do a valve cover exchange with me (ie. I tart up his spare valve cover to use on my lude, then when that's fitted I give him my old one back).

Dan had already stripped it down, which saved me a job...

So I gave it a good clean and degreasing...

Ready for masking...

Before painting...

Image

I also painted up the sparkplug cover in a complimentary colour...

Image

Then I wasn't sure if I should just leave it as that...

Image

But thought it looked a little bland. And I didn't want to bare the metal on the writing as silver on white doesn't do anything to me, so...

Image

I thought I could be original and leave it at that, but up close it looked a bit jobby and that would have annoyed me...

Image

So I coloured it in... Which was my original intention...

Now I've actually used a perminant marker for the letters, so it's kind of an experiment as I'm unsure of whether it will hold up to the temperature or not. It may even fade or blemish, but I thought that could be a cool effect if it does. Either way, it was a lot easier to do than masking/sanding...

I've not fitted it yet, but I'm sure I'll find a chance during the week ;-)

Very nice nathan.

I did like the letters as white with just the otline showing.

However, good job on both fronts 8-)

I like the outline look 8-)

I could prob make a sticker that will fit, should with stand the temps on the rocker cover and look better than using pen

@ STK - Cheers lol. No not yet. I'm undecided. I know it would make sense to laquer it as at the moment it's matt, so would prove to be a bitch to clean. But at the same time I really like it matt

I thought I'd wait to see how the perminant marker holds up before I laquer it at least anyway ;)

@ Ammo - I think I prefer it filled in to be honest. And I actually like the pen's effect  It gives off that metallic petrolly sheen when the light catches it 8) I did enough layers so that you can't see any streaks to.

Like I said, it's an experiment, so if it all goes tits up I can redo it :D

@ The rest - Cheers guys :)

Off up to PAW tomorrow to get the cambelt etc done and so I wanted to swap the spark plugs over from the existing Bosch's to the NGK iridiums from the project which hadn't been used a great deal. This is because on occasion she feels a little hesitant when I put the power down. I had thought it may have been down to the leads, so I swapped them out for the project's 8mm racing leads previously. I thought that had cured it to start with, but the problem persisted after a day or two. So anyway, old plugs out, they looked like this...

I'm not entirely sure what a red colouring to the plug means, so I'll mention it to Rich tomorrow when I see him, but I figured the run to PAW will be a good trip to see if the NGK's have fixed it.
