Blower Motor and Boot Popper

Post by Gayno » Sun Sep 22, 2013 5:15 pm

Finally got round to fixing a couple of small issues I've had for a while!

I had to replace the transistor controlling the fan speed as it had blown when the blower motor seized earlier this year. Was a right pain to do this as had to remove the dash and pull it forward. The bible says it can be done in situ, but I just couldn't see how! I know have 4 working speeds on the climate control, so now it all works as it should.

Also earlier this year, my remote boot popper stopped working. I bought a replacement in April but hadn't got around to sorting it until now! All fitted and I can now open the boot using my alarm remote fob again!

Happy days!

Starter Motor, Track Rods and Drop Links

Post by Gayno » Sat Feb 08, 2014 4:45 pm

Finally got round to fitting the replacement starter motor, only to find it didn't fit! Looking at it end on it was the symmetrical opposite to mine, not sure why?! However as the part that had failed was the solenoid, I stripped them both down and swapped the replacement solenoid over onto my start motor gearbox. All fitted up, and it burst into life!!

Also had a fight with the drop links and track rod ends. Much hacksawing and angle grinding eventually had the old ones off and left me with this:

New ones all fitted up, but unable to test as car is SORN :( Only 3 weeks left to wait though.

Boot Light Upgrade

Post by Gayno » Thu Mar 20, 2014 5:26 pm

A couple of years ago, I upgraded the boot light with a 60cm LED strip.

However, in adjusting the boot popper I left it slight too tight which left the switch open, and the battery drained. At that point I just pulled the connectors so the LEDs didn't come on, then the strip lost it's tack and fell off, and I've never got around to sorting it out. Until today!

Ordered 2 x 30cm LED strips this time. Fitted and wired up (boot popper was sorted out ages ago!)

From Outside:

Taken through ski hatch with boot closed to give an idea of brightness:

With boot closed, to show positioning:

Much better than the single central light, as they're brighter and give better coverage.

Strips purchased from here:

UK seller with fast postage, a good prices. This upgrade cost £3.40!

Just been out and taken a picture now it's dark, much improvement over the OEM tiny central light.

Now you have got your pictures will you let your Mother in Law out of the boot tonight?
I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.
