Slight hesitation upon VTEC engagement?

Post by Merlin » Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:03 pm

In my 4G  I have an intermittent hesitation upon VTEC engagement what are the possible causes of this? I have a Spoon ECU so VTEC is at 5K. Foot to the floor / WOT seems to induce a slight hesitation in power just after VTEC has kicked in. You hear the change in engine tone but rev's stay flat, then it free's up and accelerates with max power again.

Any ideas? Dizzy? It had new spark plugs about 2K miles ago. The air filter is clean, as is intake and throttle body.

What about the VTEC solenid filter? It sounds like VTEC is coming in fine, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, my immediate thought was the Vtec solenoid. Give it a good clean.

If no improvement after cleaning vtec solenoid then it might be down to dirt being dragged up from the petrol tank

Thanls for the ideas. No the valve clearances havent been done since I have owned the car. They probably have never been redone.
