Stage 1 or 2 cams?

Post by Crazy_C » Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:37 am

I know I don't have a Prelude engine in my car, but it's still a Honda.

I've just bought a stage 1 cam with adjustable gear for my car, but I was wondering if it's worth getting my current cam ground to stage 2 at all? I was thinking about a stage 2 cam, but looking at the specs, I'm currently not sure. The active rev range is what's making me lean towards stage 1 more really.

Stage 1:

Intake 1 - 270deg - .384 lift
Intake 2 - 260deg - .384 lift
Exhaust - 274deg - .402 lift

2800-6500rpm

Stage 2:

Intake 1 - 280deg - .392 lift
Intake 2 - 268deg - .383 lift
Exhaust - 288deg - .394 lift

3500-7500rpm

No idea, but they're even on the intakes I believe. For the 12V engine it's best to regrind unevenly on the intakes so you don't lose anything bottom end.

Just found that the stock cam is:

Intake - 214deg - .406 lift
Exhaust - 234deg - .430 lift

Are you sure there's enough meat on the standard cam to regrind it? And wouldn't it be cheaper to simply buy a stage two cam than regrind a standard anyway?

There's no off the shelf staged cams for our cars. Everything, bisimoto, colt etc... is a regrind. This one is a colt tri flow regrind.
