Are you on about the intake resonator that sits inside the drivers side wing? Do you have the OEM intake installed or an after market one?

You have an aftermarket panel filter in the OEM intake or a full aftermarket one?

Yeah you dont need the resontaor anymore, its dead weight. The resonator is there to reduce induction noise and increase engine torque at low revs when the OEM intake is installed. At 5K rpm the butterfly valve in there opens allowing air into the 2nd chamber.

You can rip it out. Follow the vacume line up into the engine bay to a little control box that sits under the intake behind the battery box, you can remove this control box as well. Then blank off the vacume hose that goes up to the intake manifold, you can put a screw into the hose ;)

What about if you are using an after market panel filter in the oem airbox? Would it be worth removing or not in that case?
Also I've been googling around but are there any BHP gains to be had or anything by removing it, or is it just weight reduction and free-er flowing?

The word out there is that you will loose a bit on the low end and potentially gain a bit on the top end. I have a K&N panel on my 4G with the resonator removed.

And I have a K&N panel filter in my daily without the resonator removed ;-)

I'd say if it's your daily, leave the resonator fitted.
