I made my decision to drive up, given the hassle of sorting a trailer and a tow or relaying the car up. I drove up to PAW from darkest Cornwall setting off at 5am and getting there at about 9.30. What a drive with the weather and all.

It was my first time at PAW and Rich is indeed a top bloke. He was bang on with his diagnosis given my rather vague descriptions of the problem over email. It turns out it was the auto tensioner starting to fail and the timing belt was flapping about a bit, creating the noise. The previous belt change had been a bit of a poor job. Only the timing belt had been changed but the old balance belt was still there and was 30% out. So now I have all new belts (including the aux belts, manual tensioner, water pump, retrofit retainer, clearances done etc etc etc... OMG what a difference, engine purrs like new!! He is indeed a magician :ugeek: . Money well spent and I am so glad I took the car to him rather than let my local garage loose on a job like that :) .

The drive back was a fooking nightmare, it wasn't so much the snow, it was the numpties that mistakenly thought their Rep Cars had 4wd and snow chains and drove at 80mph through 3 inches of fresh snow on the motorway in the dark :o  ... One was tailgating me to get past and eventually went to overtake me, after snaking all over the road and winding up side on to the traffic I think he realised why I was driving so slowly.... justice  .

Anyway, Thanks @PerformanceAutoworks for a top job, cheers!

Thanks for your comments and feedback G, we always like to hear people's thoughts on their experiances with us 8-)
Hell of a day for you all in all and you certinly showed some commitment and your love for the Lude that's for sure.
Glad you got home safely...despite other idiots best attempts, just glad we managed to turn the job around for you quicky (well as quick as we could with the engine temp restrictions anyway) so that you could at least head off home with some hours of daylight remaining.

Pleasure to meet you, you know where we are if you need anything further in the future 8-)
