Well it was just something I was told once ;)

If you flip the gearbox 180° horizontally can you get 1 forward gear and 5 reverse? Might be worth trying that merc and then flip the engine and car and everything will spin the right way etc. etc.

exactly you get all the benefits of flipping the head without any of the problems and you get a sixspeed box for the hassle of making a conversion plate and indigolemon has shown thats a viable option.

It totally depends what you want from a car. I'd imagine I spent probably about the same as a K20 swap etc in broad terms (guestimating here) and it COMPLETELY transformed the car. Not just my old car with a bit more oomph, but the entire drive of it, giving all the excitement of a new car IMO.
BUT, that's me. I felt I had kept the lude up to date in other ways and I wanted to give it modern numbers too, so for me it fits the bill completely, I don't look at new cars and want one, (well maybe an XKR :D ), I love what I have.
Of course YMMV.

the k runs the opposite way because of its orientation in the bay if you turn the H 180 degrees wont it run the same way my brain is starting to hurt lol

so does it run the same way or different? this is the crux of the whole discussion.

if they were to run next to each other, so that the gear box ends were at the same end, as it were, would they run in the same direction? if so, winning, if not then the 6 speed box idea wont work!

Wouldn't spending far less money in customising a 5 speed box to best suit your customed motor's powerband not be the better option? Surely there's no point in having that one extra gear unless again... all 6 are customed to your motor to actually gain anything?
