Right, back out of my meeting now, but do have to get on with some work before leaving shortly.

I got the pics, thanks Nick.

Ignore Ste – Chip is sat in there fine, notch facing the right way.

I’ll be honest too, the soldering looks pretty good, it really is a hard one to tell if there is anything wrong with that side of things. I assume this is your daily drive and this your only ECU? If so, if Merlin can sort you with the JDM Spoon one he has till Wednesday, I’ll next day deliver another chip to try. It’s the only way to rule out the socket installation or a bad chip.

A pic of the other side, without chip would be great. I doubt it was the chip not pushed in all the way. Those sockets are fairly tight and it only takes a little contact to work. Just be careful not to bend or break any pins when you remove it!

I'm real sorry in advance if it’s the chip bud.

Let me know if any more develops.

Cheers,

Rob

the ecu you have fitted this to has anyone checked that it is a (forgotten exactly  ) 001 is it?
wasn't there something about 3 numbers on the ecu and if you had the wrong one it wouldn't work ;)

no problem Rob - its still throwing up engine management light - so im going to leave it until i can test out another known good ecu this evening. guy that did the soldering has over 35 years experience so id be surprised if this was where the problem lies- i sat and watched him doing it and we went through instructions together and made sure it was right. Took him about 45mins to do so i dont think he rushed it or anything.
will know more this evening and will post up findings.

Dbo my ecu number is 37820-P13-N01.
J-MT which i take to be jdm manual gearbox 2ws.
Says JDM P13 on chip so should be the right one.

Cool.

The ECU code sets were the UKDM chips only. The Spoon map works on all JDM P13's - J00, J01, N00, N01.

Right chip attempt no 2 will be with you asap! No faffing around like last week!

We'll get you sorted out bud.

At least you've narrowed it down to just those two likely causes :)
