I hadn't even contemplated a brake change you know. Didn't realise there would be so many complications.

Is it not simpler than this? Most 'Performance Brakes' Manufacturers do 'Big Brake' kits for most applications. Is this not the case with the Gen3?

I know they're quite pricey, but they must do something that bolts onto the original equipment without modification..

Or am I wrong?

Ok, so big brake kits are quite pricey!

But I've found these. Would they be up to the task for a 2.2 in a Gen3?

This is somewhere on the forum but just to give you something to think about whilst we're on topic for once ;) :

Prelude (2.2 VTEC, not sure about 2.0) 4G and 5G use 282x23 discs, single piston caliper.
Legend and NSX use 282x28 discs, twin pot caliper.
Accord TypeR use 300x28 discs, twin pot caliper.

Carriers should be interchangeable between the first three, can't really comment on the ATR as I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.

If standard VTEC 4G/5G calipers fit on the 3G, then I think it is safe to assume that the Legend and NSX ones will. Again, can't comment on the ATR.

If you're going to upgrade your brakes, at least you want the 4G/5G setup, Legend/NSX would be better, if someone can confirm if they will fit (with or without a bit of work) then get the ATR. Unless you're chasing massive power figures or going on track then anything bigger than the ATR setup is IMO a bit excessive.

As for EBC discs, I have the EBC blanks and Red Stuff pads on the front (my 5G) and can't complain, definite improvement over OEM. Haven't touched the rears yet. I think the 3G is probably a touch lighter than the 5G for sure cos she's a fatty so they should be more than adequate for road use.

That's great @Donald. Useful information! :)

So is it just as important upgrading the calipers, as it is upgrading discs & pads then?

I think it depends who you ask  I'm no proctologist but I think upgrading your calipers should be considered, especially if you're spending £££s on discs/pads. But a maintained Prelude caliper is by no means dogshit, quite a few track cars I've seen on here are still on stock calipers IIRC.

Yeah, but are Gen3 calipers as effective as G4 or G5 derivatives would you say?

Definitely. The discs and pads are responsible for the "bite", but they still require a force to push them together in order to slow and stop. At the moment you know what your 3rd gen set up is capable of, but by dropping an H22 in you're increasing the potential top speed and then the weight, so that force required to "bite" needs to be increase to compensate.

So what would you suggest is the best/most cost-effective option then?

I already have a new set of Brembo Discs & Blueprint Pads to go on, and I will be needing to replace both rear calipers with a pair of reconditioned Blueprint ones I have my eye on.

If I ultimately sourced a decent set of front calipers to suit, do you think this setup would be adequate?

No  Not unless you plan on literally sticking to the speed limit everywhere you go and doubling your stopping distances ;-)

Let me have a look at the difference between these 3rd gen and 4th gen calipers I have here to give an idea of what's needed. I imagine to you may need adapter plates made up to stand the caliper further away from the hub, but I've done no research on this, so it's all just speculation at the moment.
