Timing belt 4th gen vs 5th gen

Post by vanzep » Mon Mar 12, 2012 11:20 am

Just wondered if there was any differenece between the 4th gen and 5th gen belts.
4th gen belt BB4 SiVtec Manual 14400-P13-004
5th gen belt 14400-PT2-004

I bought the 5th gen one - the listing on ebay says it will fit 4th gen UKDM models - just wanted to check and make sure it will be ok for my 4th gen JDM lude if any one knows.

Just to correct this post for anyone reading it - The 14400-PT2-004 belt DID NOT FIT my 4th gen.
Luckily a local motor factor had a Gates timing belt T226 in stock which fitted perfectly :)

The only thing I think is different between all the H22a variations is the water pump on the ATR (Could be wrong and thinking of the oil pump) But yes, there is nothing different on a Prelude H22a to cause it not to fit. S

Still, expect it to be a damn tight fit ;)

Or a piece of string! Try and run the car with that!

If it's legit, £4.99 is a steal!

+1 to that. Mine will probably need doing fairly soon.

Anyone know what the interval is? Every 60k or so?

depends, acording to honda the original belt is good for 120000 or 7 years, dont know if anyone has tested this though, seems a little high to me :? mine has done 84000 now, should get it done really as its 20 years old :D

As a good rule every 60,000 miles the belt should be changed. I'd say 120,000 miles is too long. Mine snapped at 150,000 km (which is basically 93,205 miles).
