Exhaust & Manifold options
Hi All,
I am going to need a new exhaust and manifold on the lude fairly soon (bb1 ukdm). I have got minor blows from the flexi on the downpipe and from the backbox.
My car is a daily, I don't really want to be waking the neighbors in the morning, I don't mind it being loud in vtec but I don't want it being really noisy on idle or at low revs. It's ok if it is a bit louder than standard.
What are my options?
Thanks
Mike

Options?
Manifold
2nd hand OEM manifold
Ebay special stainless manifold
DC Sports manifold
Mugen, Fijitsubo etc.. manifold
PLM Hytech replica
Exhaust
2nd hand OEM exhaust
Ebay special exhaust
Some 2nd hand exhaust off the forum
New Tanabe, Skunk2 etc.. exhaust
A custom one
If it were me I would go for a 2nd hand Mugen, Fijitsubo etc.. manifold (if you can find one) and a custom exhaust. custom exhaust are not as expensive as you think and the builder will be able to make one exactly for your needs.

Yes, Skunk2 will definitely be too loud. Check them out of Youtube. Majority will be Civics, but they're all the same backbox.ATR84 wrote:Need to sort my profile out. Gatwick area.NafemanNathan wrote:Where abouts are you?
Custom is your best bet for the catback, so if we know where you are we might be able to suggest some places.
What about systems like Skunk 2? Too loud?
Plus for that kind of money you can definitely afford custom. Then you can specify volume and tone

And by the sounds of it Solid Fabrications isn't too far from you at all!
They can even do you a custom manifold and downpipe, but that would probably be more than the catback.
The ebay special and DC Sports manfold won't give you any gains over a standard manifold, but will give you a sportier tone. The Mugen and Fujitsubo will give you gains, but they are pretty hard to come by.
The Hytech rep is a good option. Quite afforable, but does need some subtle modifications to fit. This wouldn't be an issue if you went to somewhere like Solid Fabrications though as they could do the mods at the same time

You would obviously be carless for a day or so whilst they worked on your car though.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I don't really want to go second hand oem as I may end up paying to replace it again fairly quickly. Any ideas on prices for a custom cat back and custom mani and downpipe? Problem is it will probably be about a grand all in and that is a lot.
Is there anything wrong with the ebay specials and dc sports manifolds? Do they fit straight on?

An average custom catback is about £300 and you might want to get a decat pipe on top which will be up to about £50 or so.
For a custom header you're looking at more like £450 depending on whether they've made one for a prelude before and have a jig all ready made up.
The eBay specials and DC Sports headers are a direct fit, but they won't give you any performance gains. They'll just sound a bit throatier.

Re: Exhaust & Manifold options
Custom afaik is about 400
My mechanic said hed make me one for 300 but dunno if ill just get the skunk2 one as i actually love the noise lol
I bought the dc sports one off ebay for 60 and looks perfectly fine, no cracks or anything
My issue was when i went to fit it it didnt look like it was gonna fit my downpipe, dunno if yours would be the same
Personally im going tri y hytech replica as its got the downpipe and all for around 300, fitting a japspeed decat and maybe the skunk2 catback
Entire system there gonna cost me about a grand
If you even want details on th dc header i have let me know bud, its of little use to me atm so would sell it cheap

That'll be your problem mate, all after market manifolds are paired up with their own downpipes and aren't interchangeable. So your only option with that is to find a Dc Sports downpipe to go with it, or get a custom one made to suit.MaccaIRL wrote:I bought the dc sports one off ebay for 60 and looks perfectly fine, no cracks or anything
