Turning the vti into a typeS

Post by tom023 » Sun May 01, 2016 12:09 pm

Hey guys!
Quick question:
Did honda tweak the ecu to make 220hp with the typeS?
The only thing the EU vti 200hp does not share with the typeS is the more agressive typeS cams right?

So...Theoretically would fitting typeS cams into a h22a8 make 220hp?

You will need the map as well as you would with any mod as significant as cams.

Thought as much! Chucking cams in and making +20hp is too ggood to be true!

There has recently been a discussion about this on the "Honda Prelude" Facebook group. It seems that the H22A8 ECU is restrictive. There's a suggestion that even a 4th gen ECU will free up extra BHP on a H22A8 engine. I'm interested in this and would like to see some before and after dyno runs.

I am too! Hopefully somebody with a bit more knowledge can chime in on this.

Would you need a chipped ecu? Like the £200 p27 htune do?
Offloading 5th Gen bits.

I guess so, or can you remap the standard ecu for the h22a8?
The idea was to confirm if the ecu map for the typeS was different to the map for the 200hp model. (NafemanNathan confirmed this)

What's this?

Much confusion here.

Are we talking about the European vti-s that has atts?

As long as the European vti-s's engine is basically a h22 redtop with the 11.0:1 compression pistons and higher lift cams etc the type s ecu will give the full 217bhp. It will work.

To make things a bit clearer. I was asking about the vti (my model) which is redtop with 4ws, but i believe the same applies to the EU vti-s. Are you saying the european redtop already has the high lift cams and the only thing needed is the typeS ecu?

You said eu vti so I assumed your European not ukdm. I think euro vtis use the h22a5 engine which won't work.

A h22a8 engine will work with a type s ecu is your a ukdm h22a8.
Now who has one for sale in the next couple of weeks?
