F22 with vtec?

Post by ek9sid » Sat Jun 18, 2016 4:15 pm

Hi guys. Been looking around for a while now for an answer but nothing concrete as yet.

A friend of mine has got hold of an f22 engine from a 5g. He's wanting to vtec it (if that's even a term) and then boost it. Anyone heard of that being done before? (Namely the vtec conversion).

Tia

Is it just as simple as that? No drilling for oil ways/blocking others off? F22 or h22 head gasket? And belt? Not got much knowledge on the first series.

Thanks for the heads up though :-)

Look up g23 builds.

Iirc the f22 block has an oil way for the vtec.

Youll need a h22 water pump, belt and id say head gasket.

Iirc the bore of a f22 is 1mm smaller than a h series.

Also the bottom end could do with balancing.

Alot of this is from memory though.

H22 is 87mm bore. F22 is 85mm. Deck height is the same, so H22 belts should fit.

Thanks guys. So you think f22 block and bottom end with h22 head and water pump should be a direct bolt on? Excellent news. And thanks for the heads up on the g23...will have a look into that. Very much appreciated

Hmm I thought about doing a vtec head swapp on my h23a1 but I thought there's not a lot of point as the bottom end on h22 is made for vtec and therefore stronger and I don't know if they have the oil sprayers for the Pistons.. I've seen people do vtec head swaps on the b serious for a b20 and it lasted about a week before the bottom end went... If it's guns be done it's probably best the put some stronger con rods etc in..

yeah i think you can retrofit the oil sprayers but they wont help the bottom end as they spray up the cylinders dont they???

The crank isnt necessarily stronger on a h22, its balanced a little better.

Oil squiters can be retro fitted to a h23, not sure about f22 but need some adjusting so they dont clash with the pistons which the spray up underneath of.

Big issues are the pistons speeds of a f22/h23 crank because they have to travel further for the same revs on a h22 and also the rod angles at the higher revs.

For the hassle id just drop a full h22 in or stick with the f22 and sprinkle some magic on it like pistins and cams.

Ive read the f22 head is meant to flow better than a h22s.

Vtec is over rated any way
