Urgent help timing out,can I adjust it?

Post by lewie fraser » Fri Jan 20, 2017 2:39 pm

Found Out today that my inlet cam is out.

I recon I couid slide the belt off but should I try it? It's like 1 tooth out.so pissed off at the garage that did my belt.they also couldn't eveh fit a rocker cover gasket properly.

I really need some help with this.is it worth trying to pull the belt off and turning the cam slightly?

I still have an auto tensioner so will that not fail if there is not enough tension?

Yeah it does look out. They should have installed the belt with the cams locked in place. I think you will struggle to adjust it by yourself. I would be taking it back to the garage that did it.

Your timing marks should look like this:

The garage that did it are in Dundee.i ll have to call them up but I don't really want them touching it again.it was a disaster from start to finish and I payed them £550 for the job aswell.I might buy a Manuel tensioner and do it myself here in Newcastle.

It's definatly out by looking at that picture too

That might be why it takes a few turns to start in the morning and why the power delivery is weird

Difficult to see for sure, but with the perspective it does look one tooth out.

The belt will be too tight to slide off just the gears anyway, and even if you didn't you'd never get it back on again without removing the tension.

It's definitely something the garage should be rectifying, but it is quite common to be one tooth out with h22 it seems. I can understand you not wanting to take it back as well, especially if there have been other issues, but you're well within your right... You've paid for a service they haven’t provided.

Definitely a tooth out there sadly :(

I agree with nath, take it back and say it's running awful and it's a tooth out. Speak to them on the phone first maybe?

What was the £550 to do, just a new cambelt?

Yeah I will have to call them and take it.it was alot of money I payed for it.

It was meant to be £400 but the guy broke my auto tensioner.so I had to get a new one from honda for 150 or something he said.

So for 400 was;

Blueprint timing belt kit
Tensioners
New waterpump
Rocket cover gasket kit
cam seals
Balance shaft belt

£550 for that job is ridiculous for the bad quality of work and it took him around a week to do but you live and learn I guess :|

hopefully being a tooth out isnt going to ruin the engine or anything - it should be driveable out of vtec - you could risk it and take it back to the garage in dundee and let them fix it having paid that amount i would certainly give it some thought but if youve lost faith then thatd be understandable
like others have said it is not that rare to see it a tooth out - ive seen everything look lined up and then cranked the engine over a couple of times by hand and its a tooth out :? unless ive imagined that
if you want an alternative there is a independant hondatec specialist in Edinburgh that could sort that out for very fair price
plus side is the car will feel better once its rectified ;)

Am really not sure what to do but I will message the guy and see if he will do the job again.am still toying with the idea of getting a Manuel tensioner and doing it myself.yeah that's a good though,is that the guy who did the timing and cams on your bb4?

yep the timing was out after i did my first timing belt on the BB4 and decided to complicate things by doing a manual tensioner conversion at the same time all done at night out in the street when it was snowing - took me 3 days
the auto tensioner had failed prior to that and i think the 2nd auto tensioner was on its way out or the belt had skipped a tooth
i had it eventually sorted when i took it to a hondatec guy and had the type r cams fitted and asked him to check the timing as would be taking the belt off. :)

I called the garage and sent over the same pics I posted here and they said they will have a look at it and strip it down to check it again so that's positive.
