Recommend me an exhaust system...

Post by Craig_85 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 11:51 am

I have decided to do a couple of subtle modifications to my car, one of which is an exhaust.

I will not be going mental with it so this does not have to be with ultimate power in mind, but I would like to hear it a bit more when you are getting on it.

The sort of exhaust systems that I like the sound of are things like the Greddy Evo 2 or Mugen Twinloop (but seemingly unavailable new). As opposed to things like Skunk2 Megapower or Buddy Club Pro Spec. I have done the loud buzzy angry wasp Civic thing over 10 years ago!

Don't want it too loud and definitely don't want something that drones, but obviously after a decent noise when putting your foot down. I am trying to decide between a new expensive Fujitsubo Legalis R or going to a very good local engineering company who can build me one for less, say with 2.5" pipe and however many resonators we need to keep it quiet.

What would you do? Any good alternative suggestions?

tannabe hyper medalion got some good reviews but a good engineering company should be able to give you exactly what you want so i would say thats your best option ;)

Nothing better sounding than a Mugen Twinloop. You could likely find an Integra Twinloop and get a good exhaust shop to customise the pipework.

I miss my twin loop. Such a nice sounding exhaust. Shame it's so god dam restrictive. :(

I had the Evo 2. Thought it was pretty cool looking, sounded awesome.

Can't say I've heard the twin loop in person.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Part of me liked the idea of a brand new shiny system especially as you can listen to them on YouTube first. But they are not cheap and if I can't get the sound I'd like it would be an expensive mistake.

What's going through my head at the moment is getting an obx twin loop muffler from the states in the less retrictive 2.5" piping and get that made up with 2.5" piping and a long central resonator in the b pipe.

It just feels a bit odd putting something on this car that is not genuine Honda or a quality brand. I guess I would always have the mint original exhaust in the shed for the car. The obx should stand up to 3k miles a year and beibg garaged, if I'm saving money and it sounds great then i guess I should be happy!

I have the ultra rare Honda Access muffler and can't wait to put it on but..

I know it will be restrictive and some exhaust places don't touch it as it's they didn't make it. :?

It's the twin loop that's the restriction. I had my twin loop 2.38" retrofitted to 2.5".
Upon tunning with the charger the exhaust gas temps went sky high and the twin loop started glowing red.

Slight engine compression revision on rebuild and a standard 3" exhaust gave me 44whp & 30wlbft increase.

Ah makes sense, I've misread what some of the American prelude owners were saying about it.

I say it's not about gains but if I'm doing it I'd like to try and improve things, long term I might go mad and it would be good to have a suitable exhaust for the future. Although I reckon the real gains are in the manifold and de cat for NA?

The Twinloop won't be a restriction on a standard engine though. My H22a7 with only Type-S intake, Full Mugen exhaust system and S2000 injectors is tuned to 242bhp and 172lbft torque.
