H22A Camshaft help

Post by stal1878 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 6:02 pm

Hi chaps.

Its looking like I might need a new intake camshaft for my 5th gen 2.2vti :(

Can anyone shed some light on what will fit?
Are all the H22 shafts the same?
Which will fit and which wont?

Thanks, Ben

H22a7 cams (from a Type-S or ATR) are more aggressive and therefore more sort-after and come at a larger price. Also you'd need to fit the exhaust cam as well (no biggy if you're replacing the intake anyway), but you would need a tune after fitting those as well, so best to stick to H22a, H22a2, H22a4 & H22a5.

Can't remember if H22a8 cams are more aggressive. Sure someone else can say.

Thanks for the info friend, I am after cheap so won't be splashing out on S cams.

I know you do with after market, but do you need stronger valve springs with the Type-S and ATR cams?

Just spent £225 on timing belt bits, got it back together last week and now its off the road again and I had to take it apart all over again!

Yeah A8 cams are the same as A7, all the internals are the same except for the cast head itself (P&P).

With the a7 or a8 cams you'll need stiffer springs or you could float a valve
