High comp stuffs

Post by LewisH » Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:20 am

Ok,

Ive been looking at high comp stuff......

Found some nice 12.0:1 pistons.

I know that is VERY high comp, but would i need my car mapping if i was to get pistons that aggressive?

To use them properly you would need to spend many £xxxx to get the additional parts to back them up, and probably the same in labour to get it running right. Also one of the only non-OEM pistons you can use off the bat are Mahle Gold Series, due to the H22's FRM (fiber reinforced metal) cylinder lining.

Well i would do headwork, cams, inlet etc (already have zorst) if i go high compression, is there any other bottom end work other then con rods that will need changing (and bearings/rings ofc) ?

The crankshaft assembly (inc flywheel, crank pulley) needs to be re-balanced ideally.

as Merlin has said you will need to sleeve your block if they aren't the Mahle gold pistons. I've read quite a few bad things about the Mahle gold pistons though, they dont seem to last.

You'd want some aftermarket rods in there for sure. And since the guts of the engine is out it would be silly not to replace items that wear (bearings etc..). IMO a build like that will be knocking on the door (if not kicking it down ) of £10K to do properly.

10k is a bit of an ott judgement in my opinion. The precision machine work i get done at "mates rates" so to speak.... already contacted a place about alot of engine work to be done and the quote is very nice indeed 8-)
