also as you have got them moving, how about putting some fine grinding paste on the threads to help clean them up as the rings rotate.

Yeah if they're oil filled then the damper without a spring won't rise. But if one is rising then the other should be too. Not necessarily the end of the world though... It's all to do with the speed in which they can be compressed/return.

When i was doing the Teins, they were doing the same as you described yours to be doing, just stopping like it had hit a brick wall.

I had to use a pair of grips on the adjuster ring and work it back and forward. When it stops, just go back the way slightly, then go forward again. It was taking forever, about 30mins to do 1 side, but was noticeably free'ing off. I was also putting a bit oil on the thread to keep it lubed up and it helped alot.
