ok, these two are a slightly differant height...
seems to be because the bottom where in goes into the fork are differant helights
im guessing i need to loosen the nut on the fork, slip it down all the way (giggerdy) and tighten up again, nothing to do with the actual adjustable bottom section on the coilover...?

Correct. You need full engagement at the bottom.
