Ticket price on my BB4 lude when i bought it was £8500 in 2000 - I didnt think it was to much money back then and seeing how enjoyable and reliable the car is i wouldnt change that. Fact is tho if there wernt cheap donor ludes about (and this forum) it wouldnt be viable to keep the car on the road.

As much as I feel your sentiment Donald, it's just not a comparable situation IMODonald wrote:Even at 2k for your OEM no rust examples these cars are way undervalued IMO.
If I could go back and buy my car again knowing how reliable they actually are as well as the way they drive and all the other goodies, I would probably have paid twice as much.
I'm not sure if I've made a point.![]()
Basically if someone came up to you and said if you give me a grand I'll give you a car that's near enough 200bhp, has air con/heated seats/4WS/CC/all electric stuff and is a 2 door performance coupe that will embarrass quite a few supposedly better cars, you'd probably think that something must be wrong with it.
I aint even mad but people don't pay enough for these cars, which is probably why I wont sell mine for a long time because I know I'd be disappointed if it went for what people are paying now.
To put this in perspective, someone I know paid £1600 for a 51 plate Corsa with the same miles as my Prelude. They're not the brightest of people but still... If a drokking Corsa can sell for that much why can't a Prelude?
Just look at this:

Cars like those corsas are still depreciating, the biggest factor in that still being their age, Preludes are past that. Prices will come up when the demand - from people like us - outstrips the availability of good examples. That is happening right now, but (thankfully) most of us haven't 'realised' it yet because we already have our cars, and aren't in the unenviable position of having to replace it. Well, OK I know Rob and some others are, but already I think it's fair to say they are a bit frustrated at the lack of good examples out there.

I know they're not really comparable in terms of situation, but when you compare how much you can get for the same money - that's the comparison I'm trying to make. I know they're a newer car that's much cheaper to run, insure and tax. But it's not the same ride you get is it, a 1k Corsa vs a 1k Prelude, all other things aside, just looking at the car you're getting and the price... it's madness.
So many cars that are TBH utter dogs you can pick up for the same price as a Prelude. It shouldn't be that way, even though it is.

you have to factor in things like running costs people who dont know ludes see a thirsty expensive to run coupe they look at a vauxhall corsa they see a cheap to run/tax/insure runabout

but why would you look for a prelude if you hadnt driven one or seen one and had only driven saxo's/corsa's older women look for a particular car men just look for a car mostly and the tipping point might be running costs and residual values not looks/handling
