carbon bonnet questions.

Post by Bludge » Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:22 pm

got myself a carbon bonnet on, but there is nowhere for the bonnet holder-upper rod thingy to sit, and i dont like the way the bonnet flexes when its propped up one side.
has anyone fitted gas struts to a carbon bonnet? was thinking it might be a good idea and was hoping to see some pics of the install.

also the bonnet has a vent over the rocer cover and dizzy, i have a fiberglass shield screwed in to the underside, but was trying to think of a more convenient easy on and off way of attaching it. so far velcro strips is all i can think of. lol. anyone got any ideas?

will post sone pics when i get home so you can all see what i mean.

Really Ferdie, what types are you using?

I'd like to know too as I want to bin the bonnet stay as with all my new parts there is no where to clip it back into - plus it looks cleaner.

Just go easy closing a CF bonnet with gas struts. The pressure for Prelude specific gas struts is obviously rated for the weight of an OEM bonnet and therefore overrated for a CF. It even takes some force to close an OEM bonnet from when it's all the way up. 40% closed and the weight of the bonnet does the rest. Bonnet catches are considered a must for a CF bonnet anyway, but even more so if you have gas struts fitted.
