I believe the spats on my daily are simply held in place with 3 screws. Two pick up on the mudflap fixing holes, and the third is a self tapper underneath at the other end of the spat. You can tell they were sprayed after fitting as the new paint of the bumper has started flaking off where the spat has rubbed up against it as it wasn't sealed as well.

Lack of sealing aside, it definitely would have been better if there was no new paint on the bumper what so ever. It obviously hadn't keyed in properly, hence the flaking.

If I was to do the job properly I'd do it exactly as you're planning to. Just trial fit first, before painting and you can't go wrong.

Hi all,

Sorry to threadjack mildly - i've a urethane OEM USDM/JDM lip on order from the states & was wondering if something like the Sikaflex stuff mentioned earlier would be a wise addition round the edges where it meets the bumper, or would heavy-duty double-sided tape be enough? Just curious how difficult it would be to remove (if necessary) with the sikaflex stuff if it really holds it on there?

Cheers!
J

I would class sixaflex as a permanent fixing, you'll probably destroy the part trying to get it off once it's stuck

Sticks like jobby to a blanket
