6 Year Old Primer

Post by NafemanNathan » Sat Apr 25, 2015 12:11 pm

I just found 2 500ml cans of Halfords Grey primer with a receipt that dates back to August 09 :?

They've been dry stored and out of sunlight, but is it worth the risk of using them?

I'm going to etch prime the cf bonnet and then grey prime on top. I've already bought some recently, but if it's not enough, do you think this NOS stuff would be Ok or should I just bin it?

I wouldn't worry too much, I still paint with some oils that are 40 years old.

Why not give them a go on a trial panel before binning them?

It's whether they stand the test of time that concerns me. I'm sure it'll take, but for how long?

Chance are I won't need it for the bonnet, so can use it on something smaller/easily removed again.
