To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

I think its the one under the dizzy, with a single push fit connector.
Correct ^^^^^^ - I had mine replaced when tested by Honda, the resistance from it was slightly out of spec. As soon as the gauge would go up to half (norm) within a minute or so, it would drop back to the first 2 segments on the gauge. When it was replaced it never did it again.

I think its the sensors which "go" but I've never heard of the actual guage being faulty.

You can delimit a Jap Lude by pulling the speed sensor out of the gearbox :D This also desables your speedo though.

They idle funny with low coolent cos the fast idle valve opens & closes as coolent temprature changes. I think. Makes sense to me anyway. :?

i thought pulling the vss would be a real bad thing, as mine is an auto, it needs the vss signal for launch  (pulling away) if no vss signal then no vtec either :? otherwise you would keep vtec in 1st with the delimit chip :?

littlefeller wrote:if it doesnt reach norm,(as you say 3 segies) then vtec would not engage. so if you have vtec then guage is knackered
littlefeller wrote:my vtec doest work unless there is 3 segments lit (it will still rev past vtec point but no vtec), as you say there are 2 temp signals, one for ecu and 1 for guage, if temp was falling while driving then it should stop vtec from engaging, so temp to ecu must be ok, i think your on the right track with the second temp sender.
si import wrote:i thought it was the oil temp which allowed vtec to work not water temp
I'm with si import on this. The temp gauge doesn't need to be at norm for Vtec to engage.

Do you still get Vtec Chris?

Yep- the single pin sender that runs the gauge is independent of the feed to the ECU

Yeh I think it is the oil temp not water...

Check the connection on your temp sender before replacing it. It might just need a clean up and re-grease.

Don't mean to thread jack but my temp seems to take ages to warm up, I'm wondering if my thermostat is stuck open. How long does it take ppls temp guage to get to the middle, just driving normally while it warms up?

Within 5 mins of me leaving the house, even on a cold morning like this morning, I'll be at least up to a 1/2 (normal) on the temp gauge.
