hahaha I don't see anything wrong with that! :)

At the end of the day all I'm saying is that that particular car, in that condition/state, is too expensive for me - new paint or not.

Peace

Maybe this tells a story- not as mint as portrayed &/or over-priced? :?:
Sorry, but I think this ^ is a valid point - if it has been for sale for a while at that very reasonable price of £2000, why hasn't it sold already?

Without trying to sound like a liberal democrap (sp) I actually 'agree' with everyone in this thread, it's not so much a right and wrong as an overall general attitude that will determine the value of anything.

I saw this happen in a previous club with the classics, unfortunately some would always believe that their car should be 50k and some would always believe that those people just wanted to keep the value of their collateral at an artificial high. The truth, like most things for most people, lies somewhere in the middle ground IMO.

At the moment, me too!

It's all about the right person at the right time having the money. There will even be people that would be prepared to pay more than £2000 if the guy was asking for more. A lot of the time it's a misconception of the odds of selling a car that influence other peoples opinions of whether it's priced too high or not. Obviously priced too high the odds are less, but there will still be people who will pay it. You the seller just might have to play the waiting game. People who think their asking price is too high just have to accept this or wait for the seller to increase his odds of selling by lowering his asking price.

As I said earlier, if you paid an average amount and bought an "average" Prelude today, you will spend more than £2000 (including the price of the car) to get it to the same standard of the car in this thread's OP. (Assuming the standard of work done to this car is as you would hope, and that you wouldn't know without asking or inspecting).

The insurance company offered me £650, we 'bartered' and settled on £950.

The valuations quoted are prices you should aim to pay for a used car, not the advertised price. You should adjust your valuation to allow for extras that were not standard specification.

Sell your car now

Private Good: £430
Private Average: £300
Private Poor: £170
Part Exchange: £360
Trade: £302

Thats the prices insurance will pay out on a 95, fair enough its a standard uk version but gives an idea, pennies if ts crashed into.
Sorry mate, I'm a Prelude enthusiast, so that's just nonsense to me ;-)

And that's why car insurance is a joke. I'm not going to let it ruin my fun though ;-)

They'll pay out at least 3k on my '94. You see my point here?/how this goes round and round?

I live in a world of perceived value - my artwork has roughly doubled in the last 5 years, due to popularity and demand. It is now way over the material costs alone so it is down to perceived value - Is my oil on canvas portrait painting worth 2k? To people that dont want/like it, no of course not, but it is to the person that likes/wants it. They actually give it that value by buying it, so as I say, in that aspect you are all 'right'.
