H22A in a 3G.

Post by nitin_s1 » Wed Apr 11, 2012 11:16 am

Just curious, what's involved in putting a H22A in to a 3G Prelude. :geek: Seen lots on american sites and they look awesome. Light weight body with 200bhp would surprise even the new turbo charged cars.

I'm a complete n00b and don't know so talk to me. (I'm not planning on doing this, it's just because I'm bored today)

You would need:-

1. H22A 3G mounts
2. Engine/Gearbox with gearbox linkage
3. Axels?
4. ECU?

What else?

I mean there must be other things that you could keep? Power steering pump on H22 mated with P/S from 3G? Or keep the AC?

Are the engine mounting points the same on both cars? I know that for civic swaps you have to get a bit handy with a welder, as their engines used different mounts, whereas for cars that used similar engines such as my Accord it's usually pretty much plug and play (in theory  ). What blocks were in the third gen?

Third gen used the B20 series (not in any way related to the B16 B18 engines found in CRX/Teg's). You need engine mount adapters, but these can be purchased from the US.

Best stock engine was the B20A7@150bhp, so 197bhp does represent a decent upgrade!

is the bell housing mounting pattern the same for the 2 engines? if yes then thats the box, linkage and shafts sorted leaving it all pretty straight forward.

good book on ebay called honda engine swaps

goes into that particular swap in quite some detail

which surprised me abit

loom would need swapping or splicing, unless there is obd0 to obd1 converter

5th gen shifter cables are what to go for

custom driveshafts

mount kit, exhaust modification

brakes would be a good idea
