More painstaking progress, but it's all worth it 8-)

And those bird remains are from a Japanese White-eye :geek:

 They were cheap. :? I will swap them eventually for orange, but not until I'm at the final touches stage, so in about 3 years time. :? :?

He painted the edge of it to stop it going rusty.

Any on the friction surface will come off with the first press of the brakes.

Exhaust shields, chassis rails headlights & front strip/deru

Post by Vtecmec » Sun Sep 30, 2012 7:30 pm

Some progress, though a bit slow.

As a pick me up I decided to give the car a bit of a clean, so I rolled it out of the garage, covered in all its dust and glory…..

And I felt much better after cleaning, even though it still looks like crap.

Image

So onto some work, I picked these up off Gayno (thanks) after Nucleustyles gave them to him free issue to take to me at JAE (thanks).

Image

Image

Some cleaning

Image

Clean and ready for derusting.

Image

The’re currently sat in a bucket and are about 90% done.

I finished off the chassis rails, now shiny metal.

Image

Image

I picked up some polybushed front suspension bits from Dino’s lude (cheers). I’ve degreased them and will set about derusting and painting them up when I get the time.

Image

Now onto some decent stuff. The front slam panel looks a bit grotty and a broken bolt in there too…

Image

So I drilled and tapped that out

Image

Off with the vin plate.

Image

Then at it with a wire wheel

Image

And some derust gel.

Image

And a bit of red oxide until I get round to painting it properly.

Image

Whilst the front end was stripped down I did all the stuff that sits behind the bumper, which was pretty grotty.

Image

Image

After some wire wheeling…

Image

And post gel treatment.

Image

And paint.

Image

I cleaned up the front bumper bar and painted it.

Image

Image

Image

And the bonnet catch.

Image

While the front end was in bits, I cleaned up the headlights, the insides were a little grotty, so I pumped them full of surfex hd and let it sit for about an hour, then I blasted the insides with a hose pipe, and kept repeating until they were all shiny inside. Once clean I flatted the plastics and gave them a good polish, there not quite finished yet, but not too far off either.

Image

I’ve also treated the trim that sits below the back window.

Primed.

Image

Painted.

Image

I’ve also treated the space underneath with some dynax ub to starve off the potential for rust.

Image

Also cleaned up many of the plastic clips off the car.

Image

A bit more a bit sooner hopefully.

I think this whole thread needs Wiki-Lud'ing ;-)

Great update as always bud. Out of interest, what kind of mileage does she have?

Thanks Nathan, it's got 99k on the clock, but I hope to get 10-15 years of summer use out of it once done.

What an awesome thread. It looks amazing, I dread to think how many hours you have put into restoring her. Also, thanks for the advice with the Bilt Hamber.
